Ferry Departure Locations

The ferry runs between Helford Passage and Helford Village. (The Budock Vean Hotel, Helford and Porth Navas sailing clubs can also be a ferry pick up/drop off point when the tide allows. Please contact the kiosk to check on 01326 250770 or speak to the ferryman.)

At Helford Passage the ferry leaves from a movable pontoon on the beach directly in front of the pub

At Helford Village, the ferry leaves from a jetty at the end of Helford Point

History of the Ferry

The ferry connecting the North and South banks of the Helford River has been running continuously since the Middle Ages. Then, it was a vital link for the communities providing transportation for local produce to the markets in Falmouth. The cart and driver travelled on the ferry and the horse swam along behind!

These days travel is slightly more conventional and the ferry is purely a passenger ferry although bicycles, dogs and pushchairs can all be accommodated.

Ferry Timetable

The ferry operates from Good Friday or 1st April to October 31st. The ferry will run on demand between 9:30 am and 5.00 pm.  During July and August, the ferry may run into the evenings, however if you look at our facebook page : Helford River Boats Ltd, you will see daily updates, timetables, weather forecasts, etc.

Very occasionally, because of extreme weather, we have to cancel the ferry. This is unusual, but if storms are forecast it might be advisable to look at our facebook page or contact us before your journey on 01326 250770.
